PLATTE COUNTY DETENTION CENTER
CONTROLLER
I. SUMMARY
Performs under the direct supervision of the on-duty shift supervisor or senior shift deputy. Works in the operational “hub “of the facility. Responsible for operating security doors and cameras; to control access and movement of inmates, staff and visitors throughout the facility’s security area. Monitors inmate activities within / outside of the housing pods and the security area, and exterior surroundings of the facility. Performs general reception duties with facility visitors and handles public inquiries. Serves as the facility dispatcher.
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operates various forms of communication equipment including telephone, computer, intercom system and two-way radio communication systems to achieve and maintain contact with staff.
2. Checks and verifies status and identification of visitors to ensure authorized persons access to the facility.
3. Controls access in and out of the secure areas of the detention center by use of a touch screen system to control all doors and closed-circuit television monitoring systems to keep track of all movements.
4. Documents facility inmate admission and release as well as special incident information including those of a security, medical or emergency nature.
5. Responds to emergency alarms and makes the initial announcements of situation and operating door controls at the same time to allow a rapid response to internal emergencies; assign initial responses of officers to affected areas of the facility.
6. Receives phone calls for service and / or information; routes and transfers calls as necessary.
7. Notifies proper authorities, agencies and command staff of emergency situations within the detention center.
8. Maintains all facility security and non-security keys; ensure that all keys checked out is performed by authorized personnel only specific to that secure area or restricted area. Maintains the facility key log.
9. Monitors all the facility’s alert, alarm and emergency systems; check for proper function; always ensure proper operation of them.
10. Enters data into the computer system via computer terminal with information gained from arresting officers, booking officers or other detention staff.
11. Maintains constant surveillance and observation of deputies.
12. Maintains security observation of inmate workers; control the access and movement of inmates within the security area at the direction of deputies.
13. Maintains constant knowledge of identity and location of all non-inmate or staff within the security area of the detention center.
14. Ensures compliance with the detention center policy and procedure and post orders by all personnel.
15. Enters into detention center computer system all activities relevant to the detention center.
16. Maintains arrest files for each inmate within the detention center containing commitment and follow-up documentation regarding each individual incarcerated.
17. Prepares file documentation and other reports.
18. Performs multiple concurrent tasks and manage priorities.
19. Maintains contact with Platte County Communication Center in case of an emergency.
20. Responsible for helping clean the control room.
21. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Administration.
22. Will cover shifts in the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center as needed.

A. Knowledge of:
1. Modern office practices, methods and computer equipment.

4. English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
5. Basic mathematical principles.
B. Skill to:
1. Learn to operate all Control and peripheral equipment safely and effectively.

IV. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
A. Experience
1. Practical experience in security or law enforcement desired.
2. Clerical experience is desired.
3. High School Diploma or its equivalent.
B. Requirements
1. Be a United States citizen and, after employment, reside in Platte County, State of Wyoming.
2. Be not less than 18 years of age at the time scheduled for examination.
3. Be the holder of a high school diploma or possess a certificate of equivalency.
4. Be able to pass a Criminal History background check and have no felony convictions.
5. Be free of serious criminal and driving record
V. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to sit, stand, walk kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb and lift up to thirty (30) pounds.
2. Availability for shift work, on-call and standby status to cover those shifts requiring staffing.
3. Ability to deal with upset, hostile, belligerent, and mentally ill visitors.
4. Exposed to confining work spaces and cleaning chemicals.
5. Ability to conduct numerous tasks simultaneously.
6. Must complete Communication Officer Basic Course Within 2 years of hire
7. CPR. All Controllers must be certified semi-annually in CPR.
8. FTO Program Completion. 4 week program.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $3,200.00 - $3,500.00 per month
