Industrial Data Research & Acquisition Intern
Hybrid in Laramie, Wyoming
Fall + Winter Internship
Part-time
EcosAtlas is a Laramie-based business and industrial intelligence platform that helps economic development and manufacturing support organizations identify U.S. businesses, understand their capabilities and certifications, map supply chains, and track changes over time.
The Internship
Industrial and business data is scattered across government agencies, public-records systems, associations, nonprofits, certification organizations, and commercial providers. In this internship, you will learn how to find and evaluate sources, contact the people who manage them, confirm what information is available, and document repeatable ways to obtain it. The work spans the U.S., with added focus on industries and regions relevant to EcosAtlas projects. You will build practical skills in public-records research, professional outreach, source evaluation, and process documentation.
What You'll Do
· Find sources for business registrations, licenses, permits, certifications, contracting activity, manufacturing capabilities, and related data.
· Call and email agencies, records custodians, associations, nonprofits, certification organizations, researchers, and data providers.
· Draft, submit, track, and follow up on federal FOIA and state or local public-records requests.
· Obtain evidence of what each source contains, including sample records, fields, coverage, update frequency, cost, and access terms.
· Document how to obtain each source again and maintain an organized catalog of contacts, requests, evidence, and next actions.
· Complete targeted research tied to specific industries, regions, certifications, or data gaps.
Who We're Looking For
· Persistent and comfortable making professional calls, asking clear questions, and following up.
· Strong research, writing, and documentation skills.
· Highly organized and able to manage several investigations while distinguishing confirmed information from assumptions.
· Comfortable with spreadsheets and structured information.
· Able to work independently and ask for guidance when needed.
· Open to students from many fields; major matters less than persistence, communication, and research judgment.
