Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, and critical care treatments with precision and aseptic technique.
- Perform animal restraint, handling, and husbandry to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Conduct laboratory tests such as blood draws (phlebotomy), urine analysis, and other diagnostic procedures using veterinary software and lab equipment.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and fluids via IV insertion or other routes while monitoring anesthesia during surgeries or critical care cases.
- Support radiology diagnostics by preparing animals for X-ray procedures, operating imaging equipment, and assisting with radiology diagnostics interpretation.
- Maintain detailed medical records, update patient files in veterinary software, and document all procedures accurately.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up needs to foster trust and understanding.
Qualifications
- Proven kennel experience along with animal husbandry skills to ensure proper care before, during, and after treatments.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and emergency medicine protocols.
- Hands-on experience with anesthesia monitoring (including general anesthesia), vascular access (IV catheterization), and veterinary surgical assistance.
- Familiarity with diagnostic radiology techniques such as X-ray imaging and radiology diagnostics tools.
- Ability to handle dogs confidently through dog training techniques and animal restraint skills; experience with equine or other large animals is a plus.
- Proficiency in using veterinary laboratory workstations, phlebotomy tools, medication administration techniques, and medical equipment operation.
- Strong client communication skills to explain procedures clearly and provide pet care guidance effectively.
- Certification or experience in veterinary critical care or emergency medicine is highly desirable.
