About Us
Hillsdale Eyecare is an independent optometry practice in Bergen County providing comprehensive eye exams, medical eye care, and a curated optical boutique. We're looking for an Optometric Technician to join our clinical team and help deliver an efficient, high-quality patient experience.
What You'll Do
- Greet patients, take case histories, and perform pre-testing ahead of the doctor's exam (visual acuity, autorefraction, tonometry)
- Perform diagnostic procedures including OCT, fundus/retinal imaging, and visual field testing
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain diagnostic and imaging equipment
- Walk patients through pre-test instructions and what to expect during their exam
- Support the doctor during exams — pulling instruments, gathering data, and keeping patients comfortable
- Accurately document patient info, test results, and doctor's notes in our EHR system
- Educate patients on contact lens wear, care, and insertion/removal as needed
- Monitor and restock clinical supplies and diagnostic equipment
- Pitch in on scheduling, billing questions, and other front-office tasks as needed
- Keep communication flowing with doctors and staff to keep the day running smoothly as things come up
What We're Looking For
- Experience as an optometric technician or in another healthcare/clinical setting preferred, but not required — will train the right candidate
- Working knowledge of eye care equipment and terminology, and general medical/physiological terms, not required but helpful
- Comfortable with EHR systems and everyday office software
- Strong multitasker who can stay accurate and unhurried in a busy, high-volume day
- Clear communicator, both with patients and teammates
- Works well solo and as part of a small team
- Detail-oriented, with patient care and accuracy as the top priority
- Adaptable — comfortable when the workflow shifts and problems need solving on the fly
- Understanding of patient privacy requirements (HIPAA) and a commitment to discretion with patient information
- Comfortable in a small, independent practice environment — comfortable wearing multiple hats outside a rigid corporate structure
- High school diploma or equivalent
Nice to have:
- Retail or sales experience (helpful for our optical boutique)
- Familiarity with common vision conditions and corrective options (glasses, contacts, etc.)
