Suominen is seeking a Senior Technician, Innovation & Technology to support product development, testing, process improvement, and commercialization activities at our Windsor Locks, CT facility. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician or a motivated technical professional ready to grow into a senior-level role to make a direct impact on innovative products and manufacturing processes.
What You'll Do
- Conduct laboratory, pilot, and production trials to support product development and process improvements.
- Perform physical, chemical, and performance testing of raw materials and finished products.
- Develop test plans, collect and analyze data, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
- Operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate laboratory and pilot equipment.
- Support product scale-up, commercialization, and manufacturing trials.
- Collaborate with Innovation & Technology, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams.
- Maintain technical documentation, laboratory records, and test reports.
- Assist with customer complaint investigations, product performance evaluations, and process-related issues.
- Support implementation of new technologies, testing methods, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and mentor technicians and laboratory personnel as experience allows.
- Conduct competitive product evaluations to support development and marketing efforts.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
What We're Looking For
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Chemistry, Materials Science, Paper Science, Textile Technology, or a related technical field.
- Technical experience in a laboratory, pilot plant, manufacturing, product development, technical service, or similar environment.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical data and provide practical recommendations.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline.
- Experience in nonwovens, textiles, paper, chemicals, consumer products, or manufacturing.
- Experience supporting product development, commercialization, or process improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with Minitab, JMP, or similar statistical analysis software.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to wear required PPE.
- Occasional travel may be required.

Pay: $61,201.00 - $91,801.00 per year
