About the Role:
The Work Preparation Technician is a technical role responsible for owning and defining routing logic and workflow execution for all repair and manufacturing work within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This position designs detailed plans of repair and establishes how work flows through the facility, serving as the execution design authority prior to release to production.
Key Responsibilities:
Routing Ownership & Workflow Design
- Serve as the sole authority for routing logic and workflow definition
- Design and maintain end‑to‑end routings across machining, EDM, molding, assembly, finishing, and inspection
- Develop detailed plans of repair defining operation sequence, dependencies, and handoffs
- Establish standard and custom routings based on scope and complexity
- Ensure routings are technically sound, efficient, and executable
- Continuously improve routing logic to reduce waste and rework
Business Central Execution:
- Create, modify, approve, and release routings and work orders in Business Central
- Act as the approval gate for routing changes prior to production release
- Ensure routing accuracy supports scheduling, WIP tracking, and reporting
- Troubleshoot routing and workflow execution issues
Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Translate scope, drawings, and inspection findings into executable work plans
- Collaborate with Service Managers, Program Managers, engineering, quality, and shop leadership
- Provide technical guidance related to routing intent and execution
- Incorporate shop‑floor feedback while maintaining planning discipline
Who are you?
You are an experienced work preparation or manufacturing planning professional with at least three years of relevant experience. You have a strong technical understanding of machining, tooling, or mold repair processes and take ownership of defining and maintaining routings within an ERP system. You are comfortable working in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar system to ensure accurate, efficient execution of work orders.
What you bring to IGS/What we expect from you:
- 3+ years in work preparation, manufacturing planning, or process engineering
- Strong understanding of machining, tooling, or mold repair processes
- Demonstrated experience owning routings in an ERP system
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar
