CONTROLLER
Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for leading all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, internal controls, and financial analysis functions for Laurel Valley Farms and its affiliated companies. This position serves as a key member of the leadership team and provides financial insight and operational support to drive profitability, growth, and sound business decision-making.
The Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations while developing scalable financial systems and reporting processes that support a growing multi-entity organization operating across manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, environmental services, and distribution.
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Key Responsibilities
Financial leadership, reporting and execution for Laurel Valley Farms, Laurel Valley Soils, and Skyland USA.
- Lead all accounting and financial management activities for Laurel Valley Farms, Laurel Valley Soils, and Skyland USA.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and KPI dashboards.
- Present financial results and insights to executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of financial reporting across all business units.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets and capital expenditure plans.
- Prepare rolling forecasts and long-range financial models to support business growth.
- Analyze financial performance against budget and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Partner with department leaders to develop financial plans aligned with operational objectives.
Treasury, Cash Flow & Banking Management
- Manage company cash flow forecasting and working capital requirements.
- Oversee banking relationships, credit facilities, and lender communications.
- Monitor liquidity and develop strategies to optimize cash utilization.
- Support lender covenant compliance and financial reporting requirements.
Accounting Operations & Internal Controls
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, fixed assets, and general ledger activities.
- Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting standards.
- Drive process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and financial visibility.
Audit, Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Coordinate annual financial audits and support external auditors.
- Oversee tax compliance activities and work with external tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and controls to support regulatory compliance.
Strategic Analysis & Business Partnership
- Partner with operational leaders to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve profitability.
- Evaluate capital investments, business initiatives, and operational improvement projects.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Develop reporting and performance metrics that drive accountability throughout the organization.
Growth, Acquisitions & Organizational Development
- Support acquisitions, integrations, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Assist with financial due diligence, valuation analysis, and post-acquisition integration activities.
- Develop scalable financial systems and processes to support company growth.
- Recruit, develop, and mentor accounting and finance team members while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred
- CPA designation.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, construction, or industrial operations.
- Multi-entity and multi-location accounting experience.
- Experience working with private equity, banking relationships, and lender covenant reporting.
- Experience with ERP implementation or financial system optimization.
