Job Summary
WESTEC Inc. is seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to support critical federal road repair operations at Fort Johnson, Louisiana. This is a full-time position requiring proficiency on multiple pieces of heavy machinery used in horizontal construction. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and safe execution of road construction activities in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various heavy machinery, including:
- Equipment Operation: Operate multiple pieces of heavy equipment including bulldozers, excavators/trackhoes, front-end loaders, motor graders, rollers, asphalt pavers, and scrapers.
- Grading & Earthwork: Perform precision grading, excavation, backfilling, and compaction for road subgrade preparation and drainage systems.
- Asphalt & Paving: Operate paving equipment and rollers to support asphalt laydown and compaction operations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily pre-operation inspections, routine maintenance, and report any mechanical issues to ensure equipment remains in safe working condition.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all EM 385-1-1 safety protocols, participate in daily safety briefings, and maintain awareness of surrounding personnel and work activities at all times.
- Site Support: Assist with material handling, loading/unloading, and general site preparation as needed to support project progress.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment on road construction or horizontal construction projects.
- Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to operate a minimum of three or more of the following: bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, front-end loaders, rollers, asphalt pavers, and scrapers.
- Certifications: Valid operator certifications and/or NCCER credentials preferred. OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification is a plus.
- Licensing: Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
- Skills: Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and site plans. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe operations.
