POSITION SUMMARY:
This FULL-TIME Recreation Specialist position is located in Dayton, Ohio , and is $17.20 per hour. The Recreation Specialist reports to the Recreation Supervisor and is responsible for supporting a structured, well-rounded recreation program that provides safe and healthy outlets for students, including sports, arts, crafts, and Evening/Weekend Programming (EWP). This role oversees specialty programs such as performing arts, athletic teams, clubs, and general recreation activities in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. Additional job duties may be assigned as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist the Recreation Supervisor in planning, coordinating, and supervising administrative and programmatic activities of the department, including Evening/Weekend Programming (EWP).
- Support the creation of monthly events and activities tailored to a broad range of students, including group fitness classes, organized sports, cultural events, dancing and theater, entrepreneurship classes, resume writing and interview technique sessions, volunteering and mentoring opportunities, arts and crafts, and physical education and conditioning.
- Organize and supervise student participation in a variety of recreation and vocational activities.
- Work with the Recreation Supervisor to ensure students who sign up for activities and events are eligible to participate.
- Chaperone students during off-center recreation activities.
- Coordinate new enrollee recreation orientation and RAP programs.
- Work with the Health/Wellness Manager in implementing the weight-improvement program.
- Assist with the center's creative arts programs.
- Instruct students in specialty activities such as drama, dance, and music, and support the clubs program.
- Adhere to safety practices in all recreational activities, including water sports.
- Model, mentor, and monitor the positive normative culture of the center.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Current CPR, First Aid, and water safety certifications required.
- Ability to promote Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer proficiency.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two years of experience in recreation or physical education and working with youth required.
- Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to actively participate in and supervise recreational activities.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and physical activity.
- Ability to lift and carry recreational equipment and materials as needed.
