Job Summary
seeking an experienced Wastewater Treatment Technician to support the replacement and commissioning of the wastewater treatment plant at Dry Tortugas National Park. This is a unique opportunity to work in a historic, remote island setting, ensuring environmental protection and compliance within one of America’s most iconic national parks.
The Technician will assist in installation, start-up, and operational testing of a treatment system, lift stations, pumps, and related infrastructure.
- Install, connect, and test wastewater treatment equipment including tanks, pumps, aeration systems, and controls.
- Work alongside mechanical and electrical crews to integrate Orenco AX-20 treatment units and E/One Sentry alarm panels.
- Conduct start-up and performance verification per manufacturer and NPS specifications.
- Calibrate and test sensors, pumps, and control panels for functionality and compliance.
- Perform system troubleshooting, pressure and flow testing, and leak detection.
- Maintain daily logs, field reports, and assist with documentation for commissioning and turnover.
- Ensure compliance with EPA, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and NPS environmental standards.
- Follow strict OSHA and NPS safety protocols, including confined space and hazardous material procedures.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience with wastewater treatment plant operations, installation, or maintenance.
- Familiarity with Orenco Systems or equivalent decentralized wastewater treatment technologies (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (C4–C6), P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of mechanical piping, PVC/HDPE systems, and instrumentation.
- Florida Water & Wastewater Operator certification (Level C or higher) preferred.
Pay: $35.00 - $48.00 per hour
