Job Overview
The Manager of Quality Assurance will be responsible for food safety and food quality as well as the oversight of all aspects of quality control to ensure that the product is of good standard and meets all internal specifications, compliance and regulatory requirements. . This position will be responsible for the QA techs, and the Sanitation team . Duties will include continuous improvement of already established programs related to safety and quality systems and the SQF code, standard operating procedures, hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP), good manufacturing practices (GMP’s), raw material specifications, packaging specifications, process specifications, and ad-hoc safety and quality issues as they arise in the normal course of production and distribution.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for the oversight of activities involved in assuring safety and quality of all products produced, and that those activities meet company service, quality, cost, safety and management’s objectives.
- Responsible for Food Safety, and Food Quality
- Responsible for the compliance, implementation, maintenance, continuous improvement and oversight of programs including, but not limited to:
- HACCP & SQF certified
- SOP’s & SSOP’s
- OSHA
- Tracking ingredient and product (Traceability – Lot Tracking)
- Supplier certification
- Measuring quality and safety of ingredients for intermediate and finished product
- Adherence to specifications
- Measuring controls for the environment
- Labeling requirements for products
- Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Practitioner
- Responsible for review of production and quality standards at the various company operations
- Conduct internal food-safety and quality audits at plants and co-packing facilities
- Responsible for the overall readiness and effectiveness of the food-safety and quality programs
- Direct QA tech in implementing and maintaining food-safety protocol in order to assure that the manufacturing and delivery of products:
- Complies with all applicable food laws where products are manufactured and marketed
- Conforms with industry recognized international food protection standards
- Maintains compliance to food safety and quality standards to prevent supply, manufacturing and distribution failures that could lead to major or critical non-conformities
- Maintaining product safety and wholesomeness to our consumers
- Improve and provide continuous development of the company’s food safety program, based on industry standards and advancements in the food safety arena
- Work closely with Operations and Procurement in order to assure a smooth operating supply chain for the various raw materials purchases in its pursuit of the best ingredients for the optimum price
- Lead customer and consumer response protocols around issues or concerns involving food-safety and quality; work with customer, consumer, regulatory, insurance and company personnel to investigate and resolve crisis situations to a successful resolution
- Lead vendor approvals in concert with CFO, on-boarding in coordination with HR as well as owning incoming materials specifications development and assessment plans
- Drive operational fundamentals and continually focus on improvement with contractual manufacturers. Additionally, with regard to the scope of GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) Key Elements, develop/execute annual audit plans to verify compliance.
- Attend all company plant audits
- Responsible in following all safety and food safety guideline.

Working conditions
Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, pivot turn and bend while performing tasks. Must be able to lift, push and or carry up 50 pounds. Stand for long periods of time and do repetitive tasks with few breaks.
Facility may incur temperature variation and other hazards as incurred in the food manufacturing and packaging process. May be exposed to loud noise from moving forklifts and production equipment.
Requires wearing company uniform, with company provided hairnet/beard net, lab coat, and safety glasses when in production, warehouse, cooler and maintenance areas.
