Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced, driven, hospitality-focused Assistant Manager / General Manager in Training who is ready to take the next step in their restaurant leadership career.
This role is designed for someone who already has a strong foundation in restaurant operations and people leadership and wants the opportunity to develop into a General Manager as our organization grows.
You will work closely with store leadership while taking meaningful responsibility for day-to-day operations, team performance, guest experience, labor, inventory, training, product quality, and operational standards. The right candidate will be comfortable leading from the floor, developing employees, making decisions in real time, and holding themselves and others accountable to high standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role. Our managers work alongside their teams and are expected to become highly proficient in every area of the operation, including ice cream production.
This is not a shift-lead position. We are looking for an experienced restaurant leader who wants to grow into responsibility for an entire store operation.
What You’ll Do
- Lead day-to-day shifts and maintain strong operational execution during both routine and high-volume periods
- Create an exceptional guest experience through genuine hospitality and strong service standards
- Become fully proficient in our ice cream-making process and regularly participate in production
- Train and develop team members in ice cream making, product quality, recipes, and production standards
- Maintain consistent product quality and ensure recipes and production procedures are followed accurately
- Coach, train, motivate, and develop team members
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and employee development
- Help build and protect a positive, accountable, high-performing team culture
- Participate in scheduling and manage shift-level labor deployment and productivity
- Participate directly in inventory counts, ordering, waste control, and product-cost management
- Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, food safety, and sanitation
- Monitor cash handling and other operational controls
- Address employee performance and operational issues promptly and professionally
- Use store performance metrics to identify opportunities and improve results
- Problem-solve independently and make sound decisions during daily operations
- Develop an understanding of the financial and business fundamentals required to operate a successful high-volume restaurant
- Work closely with the General Manager and ownership to continually improve store performance
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of restaurant management experience strongly preferred
- Experience as an Assistant Manager, Assistant General Manager, Restaurant Manager, or General Manager is highly desirable
- Hands-on experience with several areas of store-level management, including scheduling, labor management, inventory, ordering, training, and team development
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop employees in a fast-paced environment
- Strong work ethic and willingness to lead from the floor
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain high standards while creating a positive and supportive team environment
- Comfortable providing feedback, setting expectations, and holding team members accountable
- Ability to stay calm, organized, and decisive during high-volume periods
- Strong sense of ownership and follow-through
- Desire to understand the business behind the operation—not simply run shifts
- Open availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Willingness to work during the business's highest-volume periods
- Flexibility to support operational needs as they arise
- Desire to grow into a General Manager and potentially future multi-unit leadership opportunities
Growth Opportunity
This position is intentionally designed as a path toward General Manager.
We are growing and building our leadership team for the future. Rather than simply filling management shifts, our goal is to identify and develop leaders capable of taking ownership of an entire Handel’s location.
The successful candidate will receive hands-on development in operations, people leadership, labor management, inventory and cost controls, training, store performance, and the financial fundamentals of running a successful restaurant.
Advancement is based on demonstrated performance, leadership ability, operational competency, and readiness to take responsibility for a full store operation.
Compensation & Benefits
- $20.00–$22.00 per hour, based on experience
- Eligible to participate in the store tip pool while in the Assistant Manager position

Tips vary based on store sales and customer tipping and are not guaranteed.
Promotion to General Manager includes expanded responsibility and authority and transitions to a separate General Manager compensation structure.
