Job Title: FTTH Fiber Technician – Troubleshooting & Splicing
Location: Pinehurst / Southern Pines, NC
Shift: Primarily Monday–Friday Day Shift | On-call flexibility required
Start Date: Immediate pending onboarding
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced FTTH Fiber Technician for an opportunity based in the Pinehurst and Southern Pines, NC area. This is a largely independent, field-based role supporting fiber-to-the-home troubleshooting and maintenance for an established telecom partner.
If you are a self-sufficient fiber tech who can troubleshoot from the cabinet to the home, read fiber maps, work independently without supervision, and handle splicing up to 144 count — this role is a strong long-term opportunity.
What You'll Be Doing
- Troubleshooting FTTH service issues from the FDH/cabinet to the customer premise
- Identifying and resolving loss or outage issues — goal is to restore light at the home
- Laying temporary fiber and splicing as needed during troubleshooting, then returning to splice permanent once infrastructure is in place
- Performing fusion splicing up to 144 count fiber
- Reading and interpreting fiber maps to understand routing, FDH locations, and cabinet/case locations
- Using EXFO OTDR equipment for fiber testing and troubleshooting
- Logging into a job management system (laptop/phone) to receive jobs, update status, and document work
- Operating as a solo, remote technician with a high degree of independence
- On-call availability for outages — primarily weekday, occasional weekend rotation
What You Need
- Proven FTTH troubleshooting experience — cabinet/FDH to home
- Hands-on fusion splicing experience — up to 144 count
- Ability to read and interpret fiber maps and understand basic fiber routing
- Experience with OTDR testing — EXFO preferred
- Must own personal fiber tools — fiber cleaver, splicer, snips, crimps, drills
- Clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) — required for vehicle insurance purposes
- Must pass background check and drug screen
- Ability to work independently and self-sufficiently without direct supervision
- Basic tech comfort — ability to log into a job system, navigate maps on phone/laptop, look up information as needed
- Flexibility for on-call outage response and occasional weekend availability
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in a solo FTTH maintenance technician role
- Familiarity with FDH, splice cases, and OSP fiber infrastructure
- Experience working for a telecom or ISP in a residential fiber market
What This Role Looks Like Day to Day
This is not a crew role — you will be working solo in the field, dispatched to jobs via a phone/laptop system. You will receive a job, review the fiber map, locate the FDH or cabinet, troubleshoot the issue, splice if needed, and restore service. You will be your own problem solver. The right candidate is someone who is resourceful, knows fiber inside and out, and doesn't need someone looking over their shoulder.

Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday day shift. Some OT expected. On-call for outages — occasional weekends on rotation, rare night calls.
