Assistant Teacher
At Curious Minds, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. We are currently seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic Assistant Teacher to join our team and support classrooms throughout the center.
Position Summary
The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in supporting Lead Teachers and ensuring the smooth daily operation of the center. This position works with children of various age groups, assisting with classroom activities, supervision, daily routines, and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. The ideal candidate is flexible, team-oriented, and passionate about working with young children.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist Lead Teachers with implementing daily classroom activities and routines
- Provide attentive supervision to ensure children's safety and well-being
- Support children with learning, play, meals, naps, diapering, toileting, and transitions throughout the day
- Float between classrooms as needed to maintain proper staffing ratios and provide coverage
- Help create a warm, positive, and engaging environment for children
- Encourage positive social interactions and age-appropriate behavior
- Assist with classroom setup, organization, and cleaning
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of toys, materials, and classroom areas
- Complete daily reports and documentation as assigned
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with families and coworkers
- Follow all OCFS regulations, health and safety procedures, and center policies
- Assist during outdoor play, meal times, and special activities
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
Qualifications
- Previous childcare experience preferred but not required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CDA, ECE coursework, or early childhood education experience is a plus
- Ability to work with children of various ages
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing classroom needs
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Must meet all New York State OCFS requirements for childcare staff

Pay: $17.50 - $18.50 per hour
Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
