Kenwood Academy is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and student-centered individual to serve as the Head Girls Water Polo Coach. We are looking for a leader who is committed to developing successful student-athletes both in and out of the pool while building a competitive, sustainable, and respected girls water polo program.
Position Overview
The Head Girls Water Polo Coach will oversee all aspects of the girls water polo program, including athlete development, team culture, safety compliance, community engagement, and long-term program growth. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to mentorship, integrity, and leadership while fostering academic success, athletic excellence, and personal growth.
Required Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience in water polo at the high school, club, collegiate, or equivalent level.
- Strong knowledge of water polo fundamentals, tactics, game strategy, and player development.
- Current CPR/AED Certification (or ability to obtain prior to the season).
- Current First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain prior to the season).
- Current Lifeguard Certification preferred.
- USA Water Polo Coaching Certification preferred.
- Ability to pass all district, CPS, IHSA, and required background clearances.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the girls water polo program.
- Develop student-athletes athletically, academically, and personally.
- Promote athlete participation, retention, and recruitment.
- Ensure all aquatic safety protocols and facility procedures are followed.
- Organize practices, competitions, and offseason development opportunities.
- Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches.
- Foster positive relationships with feeder programs and community organizations.
- Ensure compliance with all school, conference, CPS, and IHSA regulations.
Program Vision Requirement
Applicants must submit a written plan outlining:
- Their vision for Kenwood Academy Girls Water Polo.
- Strategies for increasing participation and retention.
- Methods for building a competitive and sustainable program.
- Approaches to community engagement and program visibility.
- Short-term and long-term goals for program success.
Compensation
This is a stipend position through Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Coaches will be paid at the end of the season in accordance with the CPS coaching stipend schedule.
