Position Summary
The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing individual and group counseling to clients in Community Rightful Center’s SAMHSA-funded substance use disorder program. This position delivers client-centered, evidence-based interventions that promote recovery, reduce substance use, and address the social and economic barriers that impact treatment outcomes. The counselor will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans by SAMHSA guidelines, Florida state regulations, and agency policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assessment and Intake
- Conduct comprehensive intake assessments to determine the nature, extent, and impact of substance use.
- Evaluate co-occurring mental health concerns, social conditions, and environmental factors affecting recovery.
Treatment Planning and Counseling
- Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans based on client needs and progress.
- Provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based modalities such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and relapse prevention strategies.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions aimed at promoting peer support and shared learning.
Care Coordination and Collaboration
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, case managers, and community partners to coordinate care and support services.
- Identify and address barriers to treatment, including housing, employment, transportation, and health care needs.
Monitoring, Documentation, and Compliance
- Track and evaluate progress toward treatment goals, adjusting plans as needed.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with Community Rightful Center, SAMHSA, and state requirements.
- Participate in case reviews, program evaluations, and quality improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
- Education:
- Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
- Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in substance use disorder counseling or behavioral health treatment.
- Experience with SAMHSA-funded programs and evidence-based treatment approaches is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated competency in addiction counseling per SAMHSA’s TAP 21 standards.
- Strong clinical assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems and documentation protocols.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
