Head Academy Athletic Trainer – Job Summary:
Sacramento Republic FC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Athletic Trainer to join the club’s Academy medical and performance staff on a full-time basis. The Academy Team Athletic Trainer will provide comprehensive athletic training and sports medicine services to Academy players across training sessions, competitions, travel, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and player development.
The Academy Team Athletic Trainer will work collaboratively with Academy coaches, performance staff, physicians, physical therapists, and other members of the medical team to provide a high standard of care for the club’s developing athletes. The position will also have opportunities for occasional coverage and support of Sacramento Republic FC’s First Team, providing valuable exposure to the professional level.
Core Responsibilities:
Academy Medical Coverage

Provide daily athletic training coverage for Sacramento Republic FC Academy training sessions and competitions.

Provide comprehensive evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries and illnesses.

Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation programs in collaboration with the club’s medical and performance staff.

Assist with return-to-play decision-making and progression of injured athletes.

Provide emergency medical care and appropriate injury management during training and games.

Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation and injury records.

Coordinate medical care and referrals with team physicians, physical therapists, specialists, and other healthcare providers.

Assist with injury prevention strategies and education for players, coaches, and families.

Support athlete monitoring and communication regarding player availability and medical status
Game and Tournament Coverage

Provide athletic training coverage for Academy games, tournaments, showcases, and other competitive events.

Prepare appropriate medical equipment, supplies, and emergency action plans for competitions.

Communicate effectively with coaching and performance staff regarding player availability and medical restrictions.

Assist with coordination of medical services at home and away competitions.
Travel

Travel with Academy teams for league matches, tournaments, showcases, and other club-related events as assigned.

Provide medical coverage and athlete care throughout domestic travel.

Coordinate with club staff and opposing organizations regarding medical needs and game-day logistics.
First Team Support

Provide occasional athletic training coverage and support for Sacramento Republic FC’s First Team as needed.

Assist with training, game, rehabilitation, or other medical coverage based on club needs and staffing.

Work collaboratively with First Team medical and performance personnel while maintaining the highest standards of professional care.
Communication & Collaboration

Establish strong professional relationships with Academy players, parents/guardians, coaches, performance staff, and club leadership.

Communicate clearly and professionally regarding injuries, rehabilitation progress, player availability, and return-to-play status.

Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to the development of comprehensive athlete-care plans.

Educate athletes and families regarding injury prevention, rehabilitation, recovery, nutrition, hydration, and general sports health.

Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable healthcare privacy standards.
Qualifications:
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Athletic Training or a related field from an accredited program.

Current NATABOC/BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer.
-
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
-
Experience providing athletic training services in a competitive sports environment.

Strong clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care skills.

Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on the Academy competition and training schedule.

Ability and willingness to travel regularly with Academy teams.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently as required.
Preferred
-
Experience working in professional, collegiate, elite youth, or high-level soccer.

Experience working within a professional sports organization or soccer academy.

Knowledge of soccer-specific injuries, rehabilitation, and return-to-play principles.

Experience working with adolescent and young adult athletes.

Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science, or a related field.

Additional certifications in areas such as strength and conditioning, sports performance, concussion management, or manual therapy.
