Currently seeking an Automation / Commissioning Technician with experience in PLC programming, tank batteries, and wellhead operations. This role is responsible for supporting the installation, programming, commissioning, and maintenance of automation and control systems in upstream oil & gas facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong field background and the ability to troubleshoot complex automation systems in real-time operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, and commission PLC-based control systems for wellhead and tank battery operations
- Perform loop checks, I/O checkouts, and functional testing during commissioning phases
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)
- Support automation for tank batteries, including level control, pressure control, and custody transfer systems
- Work on wellhead automation systems, including RTUs, flow measurement, and artificial lift controls
- Configure and maintain communication networks (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, radio, cellular telemetry systems)
- Calibrate and troubleshoot field instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters)
- Interpret and work from P&IDs, loop diagrams, control narratives, and electrical drawings
- Assist with facility startups, shutdowns, and optimization of production systems
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to automation, instrumentation, and control logic in the field
- Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, redlines, and reports
- Adhere to all safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Technical degree or certification in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Automation preferred
- 3+ years of experience in automation, commissioning, or instrumentation in oil & gas
- Proven experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with tank batteries and wellhead operations
- Strong understanding of SCADA systems, RTUs, and remote communications
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and control system documentation
- Working knowledge of oilfield production equipment and processes
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in field environments
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote locations
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Permian Basin production operations
- Familiarity with artificial lift systems (ESP, rod pump, gas lift)
- Knowledge of measurement and LACT units
- Experience with safety systems (ESD)
- Previous startup and commissioning project experience
Pay: $45.00 - $49.00 per hour
