Job Summary:
The Prep-Painter is responsible for preparing and painting truck-mounted equipment and industrial units using automotive-style painting techniques. This role includes surface preparation, masking, priming, and applying coatings (e.g., white/red finishes) to meet company quality standards. The Prep-Painter must consistently follow safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, grinding, cleaning, and masking components
· Apply primers, base coats, and finish coats using spray equipment
· Ensure consistent, high-quality paint finishes in accordance with company standards
· Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications
· Inspect surfaces before and after painting to ensure proper adhesion and finish
· Maintain paint equipment, spray guns, and work areas in clean and working condition
· Follow production schedules and meet daily/weekly output targets
· Perform touch-ups and rework as needed
· Safely handle and store paints, solvents, and hazardous materials
· Complete required production and quality documentation
Qualifications:
· Experience with spray guns, air compressors, and paint systems
· Knowledge of surface preparation and coating application techniques
· Ability to read and follow work instructions and safety data sheets (SDS)
· Ability to follow safety protocols consistently
· Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
· Strong attention to detail and quality control
Education/Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred
· 1+ year experience in automotive, industrial, or equipment painting preferred
Physical Demands:
· Ability to stand for extended periods (8–10 hours per shift)
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
· Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motions
· Ability to work in a paint booth environment with exposure to fumes, chemicals, and noise (with proper PPE)
Work Environment:
· Industrial manufacturing setting
· Exposure to paint fumes, chemicals, and varying temperatures
· Use of ventilation systems and protective equipment required at all times
Other Duties:
· Must be able to pass a respirator fit test and comply with respiratory protection standards
· Must follow all attendance and reliability expectations in a production environment
· Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs
