Work as an integral part of the Carolinas UC Practice and South Region Utilities discipline under the Regional Utility Director.
Lead, manage, and train staff to independently perform various utility coordination tasks, prepare quality deliverables within the required timelines, on multiple projects.
Serve as Project Manager on UC only projects.
Lead and grow a North Carolina based UC Group that is profitable.
Develop utility relocations strategies and provide coordination/relocation services to accomplish removal, relocation, and modification of utility facilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunication, etc.)
Provide QC and QA of UC Deliverables.
Interpret and train staff to interpret highway construction plans, drainage summaries, specifications, etc. to identify utility impacts
Working knowledge of all policies, regulations, and engineering standards set forth by the Federal Highway Administration, North and South Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, and all application General Statutes related to utility relocation
Knowledge of innovative construction methods while adhering to all environmental regulations and roadway design standards
Must have strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate simultaneous tasks/projects
Oversee junior UC staff and lead UC group operations to include: Scheduling utility meetings with NCDOT, utility owners, and contractors. Prepare meeting agendas and minutes and distribute in a timely manner.
Proficiently and professionally communicate technical information
Work closely with other design disciplines and Project Managers to determine most practical utility conflict resolutions
Assist with Subsurface Utility Engineering recommendations and interpreting data
Determine cost responsibility (prior rights) and assist utility owners with preparation of utility agreements, relocation plans, and relocation schedules
QC and QA utility relocation packages for submittal to NCDOT/SCDOT
QA and QC Utility by Others (UBO) and U-sheet plans in MicroStation
Independently Prepare, and lead group operations to maintain and update utility reports, conflict matrix spreadsheets, utility costs, and utility agreements
QA and QC plot existing and proposed utilities on cross sections and corridor models
Prepare Environmental Permit drawings and narratives
Attend field meetings and site investigations as required, and prepare meeting minutes/notes
Attend overall project progress meetings.
Determine relocation strategies and risks on complex projects to develop constructable solutions.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software or equivalent
Review utility relocation sketches against NCDOT Utilities Accommodation Manual
Assist senior leaders and the Regional Utility Director with proposal development, scopes, and fee preparation.
Occasional overnight travel may be required
Foster and manage client relationships at appropriate levels to help procure new business. Engage in leadership positions in professional societies and meetings where you will work to develop and maintain relationships with clients, teaming partners, and recruit potential technical staff hires.
