Duties

- Conduct comprehensive patient observations and monitor infection trends within the facility to identify potential outbreaks or risks.
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure accurate data collection, compliance with HIPAA, and effective disease tracking.
- Educate healthcare staff on aseptic techniques, microbiology principles, and infection control best practices through training sessions and updates.
- Lead investigations into infection incidents, reviewing care plans and medical records to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain detailed records of infection rates, compliance audits, and intervention outcomes for reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with management on policy updates related to disease prevention policies, epidemiology data, and health regulation changes to enhance infection control measures.
Skills
- Proven experience in healthcare settings such as hospitals, assisted living facilities, or medical-surgical units; experience in Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control protocols including aseptic technique and OSHA standards.
- Proficiency in data management tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting related to infection rates and compliance metrics.
- Leadership skills with the ability to train staff effectively on infection control practices and foster a culture of safety.
- Familiarity with public health policies, disease prevention strategies, MDS (Minimum Data Set) processes for long-term care facilities, and health regulation policies.
- Excellent medical terminology knowledge coupled with the ability to review complex medical records accurately.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail in documentation review and patient monitoring activities.
