Duties
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
- Manage electronic health records (we use Dentrix Ascend), ensuring accurate documentation of treatment plans, medical records, and dental charts.
- Maintain infection prevention protocols by adhering to HIPAA regulations, aseptic techniques, and infection control standards to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Operate dental equipment safely and efficiently while supporting the dentist during procedures in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings.
- Review documentation for accuracy, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatrics, providing clear explanations of procedures and answering questions to foster trust.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Dental Hygienist in a busy dental office or clinic environment.
- Proficiency with dental software such as Dentrix Ascend for managing electronic health records and scheduling.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medical imaging techniques.
- Experience performing dental x-rays (dental radiography) with an emphasis on patient safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Skilled in infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection control practices.
