Job Description: Perform duties necessary to maintain the company’s fleet of diesel trucks and associated equipment. Perform DOT BIT inspections; correct motor deficiencies; repair and replace tires; repair, replace, and adjust brake systems. Minor electrical work, mechanical repairs and other duties relating to maintenance are the primary duties.
Responsibilities
· Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Truck Shop Department.
· Mechanic 1 will complete DOT BIT inspections and preventative maintenance. Be able to complete basic diagnostics of electrical, hydraulic, and air systems. Be competent in the replacement of clutches, transmissions, differentials and engines.
· Keeps equipment available for use by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements. Verifies repairs by conducting test drives.
· Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units
· Performs urgent corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of mechanical and computerized systems as required.
· Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
· Uses sound judgement and demonstrates efficiency by proactively addressing emerging issues versus waiting for requests for repairs and/or breakdowns to occur.
· Performs preventative maintenance duties to all physical structures of the facility and complies with all building safety codes. This is to include facility equipment and associated controls.
· Represents a positive and professional customer service oriented rapport with management, co-workers and customers.
· Assists in replacing, installing, repairing and testing brakes, alignment, control panel and lighting systems as required.
· Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system.
· Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or shop equipment, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material). Minor welding as needed.
· Reads manufacture manuals, interprets instructions and prepares specifications.
· Knowledgeable of and represents safety for self and others. Uphold the Company’s vision to put safety first. Uses all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Requirements:
· Commercial Driver License (Class A, preferred)
· 4 years’ experience working on diesel engines related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
· Basic computer knowledge.
· Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
· Ability work on his/her own with normal supervision. Prevents downtime by finding tasks in between assigned jobs
· Ability to work well on his/ her own to inspect equipment.
· Maintain a clean work environment.
