Position Summary
The City of Satellite Beach is seeking a motivated and dependable Facilities Maintenance Specialist I to join the Public Works Department. This entry-level position performs a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks to support the operation, safety, and appearance of City facilities. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, works well both independently and as part of a team, and takes pride in maintaining public facilities at a high standard.
Under general supervision, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist I assists with preventive maintenance, repairs, and facility support activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with routine building maintenance, including painting, cleaning, and minor repairs.
- Perform basic plumbing and electrical repairs under the guidance of senior maintenance personnel.
- Perform routine inspections of building systems and facilities.
- Complete preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building equipment.
- Diagnose and repair facility-related issues in a timely manner.
- Respond to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations.
- Maintain facility appearance, including carpentry, painting, and general repairs.
- Monitor and maintain safety standards throughout the property.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and inspection records.
- Assist with facility improvement projects and equipment installations.
- Maintain, clean, and organize tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Assist with facility setup and breakdown for City events and operations.
- Identify and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and facility deficiencies.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, policies, and regulations.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of building and facility maintenance practices.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of general maintenance, repair, or related experience preferred.
A comparable combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in lieu of the minimum qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Florida Driver License required.
Physical Requirements
This position regularly requires:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and stooping.
- Driving City vehicles.
- Visual acuity with or without corrective lenses sufficient to perform assigned duties.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Work may be performed on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated surfaces.
- Exposure to construction, maintenance, and repair environments.
Salary Range: 40,441 – 59,699 (Non Exempt)
