About us
Eye Guys Alaska is a mobile optometry practice bringing full-scope eye care to 60+ rural and bush communities across Alaska, plus a home office in Wasilla. We fly in, set up, and serve villages that often have no other access to eye care. It's hands-on, high-impact, and it's our favorite way to practice — but it isn't for everyone, and that's okay.
The role
You'll travel on scheduled trips (we build them around your availability) seeing walk-in patients — typically ~15/day with 30-minute appointments. You practice to the extent you're comfortable. Each trip pairs a doctor with an optician, so you're never out there alone.
- Southeast / road trips: hotels and places to eat along the way.
- Rural bush trips: more rugged — sometimes cots and sleeping bags in schools or community centers. Every village has its own flavor.
- Wasilla office: in-town clinic days also available.
We introduce new doctors with a road trip first, then plan trip-by-trip once we know it's a good fit.
What we cover
- Flights and lodging for travel trips — provided.
What you bring
- Doctor of Optometry (OD), licensed in Alaska — or willing and able to obtain licensure.
- Your own malpractice insurance (1099 contractor).
- A sense of adventure and comfort with variable, real-world clinic settings.
Why doctors love it
You'll see parts of Alaska most people never reach, practice full-scope, and do work that genuinely matters to the communities you serve. New and experienced ODs both thrive here.
