Job Overview
CompX National is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Swiss Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will operate and set up Swiss-style lathes to produce precision metal components with exceptional accuracy. Your expertise in CNC machining, manual machining, and blueprint interpretation will drive quality and efficiency in our production processes. Duties
- Set up and operate Swiss CNC lathes, ensuring precise machine calibration and alignment for optimal performance
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files to determine machining specifications and tolerances
- Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and CAM programming software such as SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM tools
- Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other measurement instruments for quality control
- Perform machine tool adjustments, tooling changes, and troubleshooting to maintain high-quality output and minimize downtime
- Execute manual machining tasks when necessary, including the use of hand tools, grinders, and power tools for finishing or repairs
- Inspect finished parts for conformance to specifications using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards and precision measurement instruments
- Maintain detailed documentation of machine setups, inspection results, and production logs in compliance with quality standards
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives by optimizing machining processes and reducing waste
Skills
- Proficiency in CNC programming languages including G-code and M-code for lathe operations
- Strong knowledge of Swiss lathe machinery, CNC milling machines, grinders, and manual machining tools
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks and general blueprint reading skills for mechanical components
- Ability to interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications accurately
- Familiarity with CAM programming software for efficient toolpath generation on CNC machines
- Mechanical knowledge related to metal machining processes including bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools
- Understanding of GD&T principles for quality inspection and measurement accuracy
- Skilled in machine setup, tooling selection, calibration procedures, and troubleshooting CNC equipment
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste in machining operations
- Ability to perform basic math calculations related to measurements, tolerances, feed rates, speeds, and dimensions
- Experience working with CNC G-code programming for complex part production in a fast-paced environment
