Empery Asset Management, LP is an event-driven hedge fund making direct equity and debt investments in public companies under $1bn market cap across all industries, with a focus on equity and equity-linked securities.
The Role: Senior Accountant/Operations
Empery is looking to hire a Senior Accountant to play a critical role across fund accounting, financial reporting, and day-to-day operations. This position offers broad exposure to the full scope of hedge fund operations and works closely with our seasoned Controller, the Investment Team, external administrators, auditors, and service providers.
The Senior Accountant will roll up their sleeves and get involved in all aspects of accounting and operations, including reporting, reconciliation, trade settlement, cash management, and other daily fund functions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hands-on, and comfortable operating in a lean environment where responsibilities span both accounting and operations.
Depending on the candidate's experience level, this role may be leveled as Assistant Controller/Operations.
This is a long-term individual contributor role on a small, tight-knit team — not a stepping stone to a managerial track. We're a lean group where everyone works on a different piece of the puzzle, so we need someone who can manage their own workload with minimal oversight once trained, take ownership of their responsibilities, and is looking to settle into a role and grow deep expertise in it over many years rather than climb a ladder. Our team has an average tenure of nearly 10 years.
Principal Responsibilities
- Support the monthly reporting process alongside our Controller, interfacing with the Investment Team and our third-party administrator
- Provide operational support to the investment team, including daily reconciliation across brokers and administrators and cash management
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits
- Interact with external counterparties and third-party administrators on portfolio actions and updates (option exercises, note/preferred conversions, security adjustments, etc.)
- Support regulatory and compliance reporting from an accounting and operations perspective
- Assist with ad-hoc projects related to new fund launches, strategy expansions, or service provider transitions
- Partner with the Controller and Investment Team on operational initiatives and system enhancements
- Own and lead assigned day-to-day operations, ensuring execution, visibility, and continuous tracking of operational status
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in hedge fund accounting, fund administration, or public accounting with asset management clients
- Someone who works well independently — able to check their own work, exercise sound judgment, and operate with minimal guidance beyond initial onboarding
- A team player with excellent communication skills who thrives in a small, close-knit environment where individual contributions are highly visible
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities at once
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills
- Experience working with fund administrators and auditors
- Experience in a small or mid-sized environment
- Someone motivated by long-term stability in a well-defined role, rather than a defined path toward promotion or title changes
