We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Surgical Dental Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will support dental practitioners in providing exceptional patient care, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and maintaining high standards of infection control and patient safety. Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including periodontal surgery, implant placement, scaling and root planning, LANAP laser protocol, and various other periodontal procedures
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials using aseptic techniques
- Operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices while maintaining proper safety protocols
- Take vital signs and medical history documentation for patients prior to procedures
- Perform chairside assisting including four-handed dentistry techniques
- Manage electronic medical records using EMR systems like Eaglesoft and DEXIS, while ensuring HIPAA compliance
- Capture high-quality dental radiographs and interpret basic imaging results
- Educate patients on dental terminology, procedures, and post-treatment care
- Maintain infection control standards by sterilizing instruments and disinfecting treatment areas
- Support administrative duties such as scheduling appointments and managing patient flow as a dental receptionist when needed
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft and DEXIS, for medical and dental documentation and records management
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality
- Experience with X-ray procedures, medical imaging, and 3D scanners in a dental setting
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry skills efficiently
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration
- Ability to handle dental coding accurately for insurance claims and documentation purposes
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is required, however, training will be provided for specific systems or procedures as needed
