Position Summary
The Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization across multiple entities and locations. This role requires a strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, sales tax compliance, accounts payable, and internal controls. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and committed to accuracy and process improvement.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting
- Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
- Prepare management reports and financial analyses as requested.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Oversee and perform accounts payable processing and vendor management.
- Review invoice coding, approvals, and payment processing.
- Assist with accounts receivable reconciliations and collections support.
- Maintain vendor records and ensure compliance documentation is current.
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns.
- Assist with payroll tax reporting and annual reporting requirements.
- Support external audits, workers' compensation audits, and insurance audits.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Reconciliations & Controls
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile credit card accounts, loans, intercompany transactions, and balance sheet accounts.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.
Construction & Operational Accounting
- Support job costing and project accounting processes.
- Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and job profitability reporting.
- Assist with inventory reconciliations and fixed asset accounting.
- Collaborate with operations teams to improve financial visibility and reporting accuracy.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with annual budgeting and strategic planning initiatives.
- Support system implementations and accounting process improvements.
- Prepare documentation for financial institutions and external stakeholders.
- Perform additional accounting and finance duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience with construction, service, or multi-entity accounting strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with sales tax compliance across multiple states.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems; QuickBooks Enterprise experience is a plus.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
