Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Collector to join our Collections team. In this role, you will be managing delinquent accounts, contacting customers via phone or email to recover outstanding debts and negotiate repayment plans. As a collector, you reduce financial risk by resolving delinquencies, maintaining accurate account records, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Your proactive communication skills and strong negotiation techniques will be essential in resolving overdue accounts efficiently. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial health of our credit union while providing excellent member service and maintaining professional phone etiquette.
Duties
- Contact members to collect delinquent loan & negative share balances.
- Offer suggestions to help members bring their delinquent balances current.
- Apply payments to delinquent loans, charged-off loans, & negative shares.
- Place repossession orders & schedule delivery of CU collateral from repo lot to auction house.
- Provide “proof of claim” documents to bankruptcy courts & seek reaffirmation when possible.
- Present reaffirmation agreements to debtor’s attorney.
- Pursue recoveries on charge-offs
- Locate debtors
- File debt protection/ credit insurance claims & post payments.
- Contact impound lots upon receipt of storage notices to determine disposition of CU collateral.
- Negotiate payment arrangements on uncollected Overdraft Tolerance balances.
- Report charged-offed negative share balances to ChexSystems.
- Use E-Oscar to correct factual errors on member credit reports.
- Maintain loan extension logs, repo logs, & bankruptcy logs.
Requirements
- Proven experience in collections
- Strong knowledge of banking processes and terminology
- Familiarity with financial concepts such as debits & credits, account reconciliation, and revenue cycle management
- Proficiency with accounting software and financial software used for account analysis and reconciliation
- Excellent phone etiquette combined with customer service skills to handle sensitive situations professionally
- Ability to interpret complex financial data and perform basic math calculations accurately
- Effective negotiation skills to facilitate payment plans while preserving customer relationships

Hours: Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM
Closed Sundays and most holidays.
Pay: $40,265.00 - $54,000.00 per year
