Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced GI Services Nurse Manager to join the team in Chico, CA. Under the direction of the Director of Surgery Services, the Nurse Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, and evaluating an environment that supports professional nursing practice and the delivery of high-quality patient care for GI Services.
The Nurse Manager will oversee staff and procedure quality while supporting patient care, financial management, human resources, leadership, quality improvement, and operational objectives.
This position may also function as Charge Nurse or provide direct patient care and patient/family education when needed. The Nurse Manager is expected to consistently demonstrate organizational core values and serve as a role model for employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the development and management of department budgets and productivity targets.
- Manage human resource utilization and promote employee satisfaction.
- Support staff development and utilize progressive discipline processes when appropriate.
- Lead employees, support organizational goals and decisions, and implement necessary changes.
- Participate in strategic planning related to service needs and resource utilization.
- Maintain and promote quality service and best practices.
- Participate in quality improvement processes and ensure implementation of regulatory standards.
- Ensure services address the age-specific physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of patients.
- Continually evaluate departmental operations and patient service delivery.
- Keep the Director and administration informed regarding the level of care/service provided and patient, employee, and physician satisfaction.
- Act as a liaison between patients/families, physicians, and the patient care team to resolve problems.
- Work with the Director to translate professional and regulatory standards into policies, practices, and procedures.
- Stay current with changes in professional and regulatory requirements.
- Research interdepartmental problems and issues and take timely corrective action.
- Promote respectful and responsive communication between departments to support patient-centered care.
- Supervise staff in assigned service areas.
- Guide staff in adherence to applicable standards of care, practice, departmental policies, and organizational expectations.
- Serve as a clinical resource to other departments for education and information.
- Perform nursing assessments according to professional nursing practice.
- Plan patient care using a multidisciplinary approach and individualized care plans.
- Implement planned interventions safely and competently.
- Evaluate patient outcomes and make appropriate changes to improve care.
- Meet the teaching and education needs of patients and families.
- Function within the limits specified by the California Nurse Practice Act and Title 22.
- Document patient care appropriately according to policy.
- May fulfill Charge Nurse responsibilities or provide direct patient care as needed.
Required Education, Training & Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of cumulative GI experience.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience in the relevant area of expertise.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field.
- 2 years of Critical Care experience.
- Membership in a professional organization.
- Attendance at conferences or professional development activities related to management and employee supervision.
Required Licenses & Certifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license through the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Current CPR recognition/certification.
- Current ACLS recognition/certification.
- Current PALS recognition/certification, obtained within 12 months of hire.
Preferred:
- Certified Gastrointestinal Registered Nurse (CGRN) certification.
