Position Summary
The Courtesy Van Driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services for residents of the Newport Condominium Association. This position serves as an ambassador for the Association by delivering exceptional customer service while transporting residents to and from designated locations throughout the Hyde Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods according to an established route and schedule.
The Courtesy Van Driver is responsible for operating the Association's courtesy van in a safe and professional manner, assisting residents as needed, and ensuring passengers experience a comfortable and welcoming ride. This is a part-time, on-call position that requires flexibility to cover scheduled shifts and substitute for regular drivers when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation Services
- Safely operate the Newport Condominium Association courtesy van in accordance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws.
- Follow the established route, schedule, designated stops, and pickup/drop-off locations throughout the Hyde Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods.
- Arrive at scheduled stops on time while maintaining safe driving practices.
- Transport residents in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
- Make reasonable schedule adjustments only when authorized by management.
Customer Service
- Greet passengers warmly and professionally.
- Provide excellent customer service to all residents using the courtesy van.
- Assist passengers with loading and unloading groceries, shopping bags, and other packages.
- Offer assistance to residents entering and exiting the vehicle when appropriate.
- Maintain a respectful, friendly, and patient attitude with all passengers.
Vehicle Safety and Maintenance
- Conduct a pre-trip and post-trip inspection of the courtesy van before and after each shift.
- Report any vehicle maintenance issues, safety concerns, accidents, or damage immediately to management.
- Keep the vehicle clean, organized, and presentable.
- Ensure seat belts and other safety equipment are available and functioning properly.
- Refuel the vehicle as directed by management.
Operations
- Follow all Association policies, procedures, and transportation guidelines.
- Maintain accurate trip logs and other required documentation, if necessary.
- Communicate schedule delays, incidents, or operational concerns to management promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding residents and Association operations.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Must be eligible to operate Association-owned vehicles and satisfy the Association's insurance requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous professional driving, shuttle, transportation, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Dependable, punctual, and flexible.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of streets and traffic patterns within the Hyde Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods.
- Ability to operate a passenger van safely in varying traffic and weather conditions.
- Strong defensive driving skills.
- Excellent time management and reliability.
- Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional under pressure.
- Ability to assist passengers with packages while maintaining a high level of customer service.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
- Ability to assist passengers with lifting and unloading packages weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to enter and exit the vehicle frequently throughout the shift.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time, on-call position. Drivers may be scheduled to cover regular shifts, vacations, sick leave, or other staffing needs.
The courtesy van operates:
- Monday through Saturday
- Morning shifts
- Afternoon shifts
- Early evening shifts
Work schedules will vary based on operational needs.
