Company Description: Baisch & Skinner is a wholesale floral distributor based in St. Louis, MO with six branch store locations throughout the Midwest. Importers of fresh cut flowers, permanent botanicals, decoratives, glassware, and floral supplies, Baisch & Skinner is a business-to-business distributor that serves the floral, design, and hospitality industries.
Job Summary: The receiving clerk is responsible for accurately receiving, inspecting, and documenting incoming shipments to ensure inventory integrity and operational efficiency. This role verifies the quantity and condition of goods against purchase orders, identifies discrepancies or damages, and coordinates with internal departments to resolve issues. The Receiving Clerk also maintains organized records, updates inventory systems, and ensures compliance with company procedures and safety standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, basic computer skills, and the ability to handle physical tasks such as unloading and moving materials. Effective communication and time management skills are essential to support warehouse operations and maintain accurate inventory control.
Key Responsibilities:
· Receive incoming shipments of fresh cut flowers, floral supplies, and related merchandise.
· Safely unload delivery trucks and assist with loading outbound shipments as needed.
· Inspect incoming products for accuracy, quality, and condition upon receipt.
· Sort and organize incoming inventory for proper storage and distribution.
· Receive purchase orders accurately using NetSuite inventory management software.
· Stock warehouse shelves and designated storage areas in an organized and timely manner.
· Maintain inventory accuracy and report discrepancies to management.
· Follow proper handling procedures for perishable flora products to preserve freshness and quality.
· Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized warehouse environment.
· Support other warehouse functions as business needs require.
· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school or equivalent degree
- Previous warehouse, receiving, shipping or inventory management experience required.
- Experience working with perishable goods or in a fast-paced distribution environment preferred.
- Strong computer skills, with basic proficiency in MS Office applications and inventory management systems. Experience using NetSuite a plus.
- Highly motivated, self-starter that is capable of multi-tasking.
- Strong attention to detail, time management and organizing skills required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
· Ability to lift, push, and pull between 30 and 50 lbs. frequently throughout the day.
· Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
· A significant portion of the shift is spent in industrial coolers maintained between 34°F and 42°F to preserve flower longevity.
· The environment is frequently wet due to the cleaning of buckets, the use of hydration solutions and the handling of dripping stems
· Work is in open warehouse spaces with concrete floors, which can be noisy due to cooling fans, compressors, and moving equipment like pallet jacks.
· The workload is highly seasonal, with high-pressure “crunch” periods during major holidays like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, requiring extended hours and weekend work.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
