We are currently seeking an Irrigation Technician to support our commercial landscape maintenance operations. This is a hands-on field position responsible for ensuring the proper operation, repair, and efficiency of irrigation systems across multiple properties. The ideal candidate will help maintain high-quality landscape standards by troubleshooting and optimizing irrigation performance while collaborating closely with all divisions’ crews.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for effectively bidding and performing irrigation repairs/enhancements.
- This includes but is not limited to providing estimated parts and labor hours for repairs such as valve replacements, poly tubing repairs/replacements, backflow repairs/replacements, and timer replacements.
- To the best of their knowledge, irrigation technicians should have the ability to list all the necessary parts required for an irrigation repair as well as estimate labor hours for the repair. Furthermore, it is expected that the irrigation tech has a sense of what the parts will cost for an irrigation repair.
- An irrigation technician should be able to perform all irrigation repairs (within reason) with minimal assistance or guidance.
- When bidding irrigation repairs, the technician should be able to effectively communicate the irrigation repairs needed using emails, Slack, text messages, maps, and any other form of communication to ensure the account managers have all the information needed to build an adequate proposal.
- Irrigation technicians are responsible for knowing how to use Aspire on their mobile device to track their hours and use Quick Tickets.
Emergency Repairs/Visits
- Irrigation technicians are responsible for responding to emergency calls/repairs 24 hours a day as needed.
- While performing emergency visits, they should be able to adequately assess the situation, put together an estimate for repair, and shut off the water.
Manage time and effective communication.
Irrigation technicians are responsible for communicating with the account managers daily.
- They should report to the office each day after their shift and touch base with Amanda and the account managers.
- They must send photos and an assessment of their work before leaving the property to the account managers.
- When communicating proposals to the account managers, they are required to provide a detailed explanation of the issue and a detailed report on how they propose to fix it.
Irrigation technicians must effectively manage their time.
- They should be focused on doing billable work as well as finding irrigation issues to propose more billable work.
- They will receive a task list each day. It’s imperative for them to perform the immediate or important items on that task list each day.
Daily task expectations.
Site Audits or routine irrigation checks.
- When performing a site audit, it is important to let irrigation run for the appropriate period of time to adequately assess any irrigation issues.
Drip systems for 20 mins at least
Sprinkler systems for 10 mins at least
Irrigation map creation
- When creating an irrigation map, it’s important to mark where all the major irrigation components are located.
Backflow, Valves, Timers, Battery Timers, and Gate Valves.
Open every valve box and inspect all irrigation components.
- While on-site, run through the entire irrigation system and locate any potential irrigation issues.
If leaks are found, they should be documented, and bids should be provided to repair each leak. Anything from a poly irrigation leak to a leaking backflow should be identified in the report/map.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 years of experience in commercial landscape Irrigation system.
- Ability to read and interpret Irrigation plans and scopes of work.
- Proficient in professional communication, both written and verbal.
- High attention to detail, organizational skills, and dependability.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Presentable, approachable, and professional appearance and demeanor.
- Experience with Aspire or similar landscape management software.
- Working knowledge of commercial irrigation clocks and timers.
