We are looking for an experienced Assistant GSRP Teacher to join our team and help lead our classroom of young learners. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and is able to create a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Position Summary
The Assistant GSRP Teacher/Associate Teacher works as a member of the GSRP teaching team under the direction of the Lead Teacher. The Associate Teacher assists with implementing the approved GSRP curriculum, maintaining a safe and nurturing classroom environment, supporting children’s individual needs, engaging families, and participating in ongoing professional development.
The successful candidate will demonstrate patience, professionalism, teamwork, strong communication skills, and a genuine commitment to supporting young children and their families.
Essential Responsibilities
Classroom & Instruction
- Assist the Lead Teacher with implementation of the GSRP-approved curriculum and daily classroom activities.
- Actively engage children in developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Support hands-on learning through play, exploration, literacy, mathematics, science, art, music, movement, and social-emotional activities.
- Assist with classroom routines, transitions, meals/snacks, outdoor learning, rest periods, and other daily activities.
- Support individualized learning experiences based on children’s developmental needs and interests.
- Help maintain an organized, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
- Encourage children’s independence, problem-solving, communication, and positive peer relationships.
- · Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee must be capable of performing physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and standing for long periods of time. Work environment has a raised noise level.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet applicable Michigan GSRP Associate Teacher requirements.
At minimum, an Associate Teacher hired for GSRP must possess one of the following:
- An associate degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or equivalent; OR
- A valid Center-Based Birth to Five Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; OR
- A valid Center-Based Preschool CDA credential; OR
- An existing qualifying 120-hour approval letter, when applicable under Michigan’s grandfathering provisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with preschool-age children.
- Previous GSRP, Head Start, Great Start to Quality, or licensed child care experience.
- Experience working in an inclusive classroom environment.
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Experience implementing or supporting an approved early childhood curriculum.
- Strong communication and classroom-management skills.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain required certification.
- Experience working with families from diverse backgrounds.
