Join ROADS Community Clinic – Compton’s vibrant health care team as a DENTAL RECEPTIONIST/DENTAL ASSISTANT to make a meaningful difference to our community’s most vulnerable members. We are looking for someone who enjoys helping people and working in a fast-paced environment.
We are seeking a dependable, patient-focused, and experienced Dental Receptionist to join our dental team. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage front-office operations and provide excellent service to our patients.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with dental scheduling, insurance verification, treatment plan coordination, and patient financial responsibilities. The ability and willingness to assist the dental team clinically on an as-needed basis is also required.
Experience working in an FQHC, CHC, community health center, or other public health setting is strongly preferred. Spanish/English bilingual proficiency is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Front Office / Patient Coordination
- Manage patient scheduling, rescheduling, cancellations, and appointment confirmations.
- Verify dental insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Obtain and maintain accurate patient demographic, insurance, and health information.
- Review treatment plans with patients and assist with explaining recommended treatment and associated costs.
- Discuss patient financial responsibilities and payment options.
- Collect and accurately document patient payments.
- Assist with treatment plan coordination and patient follow-up.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
- Answer telephone calls and respond to patient questions and concerns professionally.
- Coordinate closely with dentists, dental assistants, and other clinic staff.
- Maintain an organized and welcoming reception area.
- Follow clinic policies, procedures, HIPAA requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Dental Assisting — As Needed
- Provide dental assisting support when needed to help maintain efficient clinic operations.
- Assist dentists during dental procedures as permitted by training and applicable regulations.
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment.
- Take dental X-rays as permitted by training, certification, and applicable regulations.
- Perform sterilization and infection-control procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
- Provide patient support before, during, and after treatment.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Dental Receptionist and/or Dental Assistant.
- Strong knowledge of dental scheduling, insurance verification, treatment coordination, and patient collections.
- Comfortable discussing treatment plans and financial responsibilities with patients.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a busy dental environment.
- Professional, compassionate, and respectful approach to patients and coworkers.
- Ability to provide dental assisting support on an as-needed basis.
- Current dental assisting credentials/certifications as required by applicable California regulations.
- Spanish/English bilingual strongly preferred.
- Previous FQHC, CHC, community health center, or public health experience strongly preferred.
- Certification in Dental Assisting is required - infection control, coronal polishing, radiation safety, etc.
- BLS/CPR should be current.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a strong front-office dental professional who is organized, dependable, and comfortable working directly with patients. This individual should be able to manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the front desk independently while stepping into a dental assisting role when additional clinical support is needed.
We are especially interested in candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish and have experience working in an FQHC, CHC, community health center, or public health environment.
