Position Summary
The Landscape Maintenance Laborer is a vital member of our field team. This role involves performing a variety of horticultural tasks to maintain the health and safety, of the existing landscape. Laborers are expected to operate equipment safely, work efficiently with their crew, and represent Fox Landscape with professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
1. Landscape Maintenance & Horticulture
· Weed Abatement: Perform string trimming around trees, weed whacking to keep weeds and grasses cut down and maintained throughout open fields.
· Detailing: Pull weeds and blowing, Rake leaves, clear debris, and maintain clean hardscape surfaces.
· Plant Care: Prune and shape shrubs and small trees using hand shears or power trimmers to promote health and maintain design intent.
· Fertilization: Per direction as needed.
· Irrigation: Basic understanding of irrigation systems and ability to identify broken valves or lines and report to the landscape maintenance foreman.
2. Equipment Operation & Care
· Safe Operation: Proficiently operate small power equipment such as mowers, blowers, hedge trimmers.
· Daily Maintenance: Perform pre-trip inspections of all gas & battery power equipment and small tools. Clean & sharpen equipment frequently and report any mechanical issues to the foreman or maintenance manager immediately.
· Gas & Battery Powered Equipment: Follow all safety protocols for handling and storing fuel and oil mixes. Ensure all battery powered equipment are charged and ready for use.
3. Safety & Compliance
· IIPP Adherence: Follow all safety rules outlined in the company Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
· PPE: Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, including high-visibility vests, ear protection, safety glasses, and safety work boots.
· Safety Meetings: Participate in mandatory bi-weekly "Tailgate Safety Meetings."
· Site Safety: Maintain a clean and organized job site to prevent trips, falls, or property damage.
4. Teamwork & Professionalism
· Efficiency: Work at a steady pace to meet the labor-hour goals set for each property.
· Communication: Report any property issues (irrigation leaks, pest outbreaks, or plant stress) to the foreman or maintenance manager.
· Customer Service: Interact politely with clients and the public if approached in the field; refer specific questions to the Landscape Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements
· Experience: Previous experience in professional landscaping or a related outdoor field is preferred.
· Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical labor outdoors for 8–10 hours a day in varying weather conditions (heat, light rain, cold).
· Strength: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
· Availability: Reliable transportation to the yard for early morning starts.
· Reliability: Strong attendance record and a positive, "can-do" attitude.
· Communication: Ability to follow instructions in English or Spanish.
Working Conditions
· Work is performed entirely outdoors.
· Exposure to dust, pollen, noise from equipment, and various weather elements.
· Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
