Position Overview: The
Hot Metal Crane Operator reports to the Melt Shop Supervisor and is responsible for the safe operation of the crane. This includes tapping, pouring, shaking out and charging; as well as doing other production work within the foundry which includes but is not limited to refractory work and pouring castings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operate overhead cranes either from the cab or via remote control, ensuring safe handling of materials
- Perform refractory maintenance on ladles, including removal of worn lining using a jackhammer and application of new refractory material
- Assist with the safe and efficient transfer and pouring of molten metal
- Notify the lead or supervisor of any equipment or maintenance concerns
- Contribute suggestions for continuous process and safety improvements
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping standards
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating cranes, heavy equipment, or performing similar duties
- Prior experience in a foundry or heavy industrial manufacturing environment is strongly preferred
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be capable of performing hands-on ladle repair tasks for the majority of the shift, with some duties involving the operation of overhead cranes
- Employment eligibility requires U.S. person status under ITAR regulations, including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or other protected individuals due to export control requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to use arms, hands, legs and feet in repetitive motions
- Must have the ability to change between sitting, standing, and kneeling positions
- Must have the ability to twist, stoop, bend, and stand in the performance of job duties
- Must have the ability to climb ladders or work at heights periodically
- Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds continuously
- Must have the ability to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces for the duration the work shift
- Must have good vision and depth perception
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment
- Must be able to withstand hot and cold temperatures
- Must be able to wear required respirators
Pay Range: $23.31 - $30.43 an hour (depending on experience)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm
