ABOUT THE AMERICORPS VISTA PROGRAM
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program where members serve full-time for one year at nonprofits, working on projects aimed at reducing poverty and empowering communities. Members receive a bi-weekly stipend, health coverage, relocation and childcare assistance, loan deferment or forbearance, and training opportunities. ABOUT THE POSITION:
As the Volunteer Reader Coordinator, you will be responsible for working with school and partner agency staff to develop a plan to increase student enrollment and participation. You will also evaluate program materials and update training materials and onboarding resources. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a recruitment strategy to identify new volunteers and coordinate program schedule and assignments. You will track volunteer engagement, provide on-site program support, and monitor program performance and student improvement. Furthermore, you will develop regular volunteer communications, evaluate volunteer experience, gather feedback, and coordinate recognition events. You will attend regular meetings with your team and supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate for this position should have the following qualifications:
● Experience or interest in community outreach and engagement, and working with families and/or children, particularly those in under-resourced communities
● Strong research, writing and communication skills
● Availability to attend evening and occasional weekend events
● Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse groups.
● Interest in education, literacy, and community engagement.
● Spanish language proficiency is preferred, but not required
● Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
● Applicants must commit to a full time one-year term of service
