Position Summary
The Industrial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical systems and equipment used in a manufacturing environment. This position ensures that production machinery operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime while complying with all electrical codes, company policies, and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems, including motors, drives, control panels, transformers, PLCs, sensors, and instrumentation.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production lines, equipment, extruders, chillers, compressors, conveyors, and other production machinery.
- Diagnose electrical and control system failures using electrical schematics, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), temperature controllers, heaters, thermocouples, and control circuits.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Install new electrical equipment and assist with machine upgrades, modifications, and capital improvement projects.
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-controlled equipment as needed.
- Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including troubleshooting mechanical components, replacing worn parts, and assisting with equipment rebuilds as needed.
- Support production by responding quickly to equipment breakdowns and minimizing downtime.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with NEC standards, OSHA regulations, and company safety procedures.
- Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures before servicing equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and documentation.
- Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency.
- Collaborate with maintenance technicians, engineers, production supervisors, and operators to resolve equipment issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Journeyman Electrician certification, technical school education, or equivalent industrial electrical experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in plastic extrusion or plastics manufacturing is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, PLCs, VFDs, and automation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Experience troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical equipment is preferred.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is a plus.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, moving machinery, and dust.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or on-call shifts as needed.

Work Environment
This position works in a plastic extrusion manufacturing facility operating 24/6. The Industrial Electrician will support continuous production by ensuring equipment reliability, responding to emergency breakdowns, and participating in scheduled preventive maintenance activities. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times while working in production areas.
Pay: $31.18 - $37.55 per hour
