Position Purpose
The Assistant D.U.G. Manager supports the D.U.G. Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Drive Up & Go operation, including customer service, order fulfillment, associate development, productivity, and operational excellence. This position helps ensure online orders are picked accurately, staged properly, and delivered efficiently while providing an exceptional customer experience. The Assistant D.U.G. Manager serves as a key department leader and may assume responsibility for department operations in the D.U.G. Manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Order Fulfillment
- Deliver exceptional customer service by ensuring timely, accurate, and friendly order fulfillment.
- Assist customers with order inquiries, substitutions, pickups, and issue resolution.
- Promote a positive and convenient online shopping experience.
- Ensure customer orders are fulfilled according to company standards and quality expectations.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer concerns and service opportunities.
Department Operations
- Assist in coordinating daily Drive Up & Go operations, including order selection, staging, routing, and customer pickup.
- Monitor order volume and staffing levels to meet service and productivity goals.
- Ensure orders are picked accurately and delivered within established service metrics.
- Support execution of company programs, technology updates, and operational initiatives.
- Maintain organized staging areas and ensure equipment is properly maintained and utilized.
Leadership & Team Development
- Assist with supervising, coaching, training, and developing D.U.G. associates.
- Support onboarding efforts and training for new team members.
- Provide ongoing feedback and performance coaching to improve productivity and service levels.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused work environment.
- Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and strong operational execution.
Product Quality & Compliance
- Ensure product quality standards are maintained throughout the selection and fulfillment process.
- Monitor proper handling of refrigerated, frozen, and perishable products.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and operational procedures.
- Maintain department readiness for audits, compliance reviews, and operational assessments.
- Identify and address safety concerns promptly to maintain a safe environment for associates and customers.
Financial Stewardship
- Assist with managing labor, productivity, and departmental expenses.
- Support efforts to achieve fulfillment accuracy and efficiency goals.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational performance and reduce waste.
- Monitor key performance indicators and support plans to improve results.
- Contribute to achieving department and store sales objectives through excellent execution.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous retail, e-commerce, customer service, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to learn and utilize company technology and order fulfillment systems.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and twisting.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in various temperature-controlled environments, including refrigerated and frozen areas.
- Ability to push and pull carts containing customer orders.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors while assisting with customer pickups.
