Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team in a community-based residential setting. This part-time weekend position requires availability on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The DSP provides direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, and aging-related needs, while promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life in a safe and supportive environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
- Monitor individuals’ health by obtaining vital signs, observing physical and behavioral changes, and reporting concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications in accordance with approved protocols and accurately document medication administration while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.
- Prepare meals and assist with nutrition based on individualized dietary plans and physician orders.
- Implement and follow individualized support plans and care plans to promote health, safety, and independence.
- Safely transfer and assist individuals using adaptive equipment, including Hoyer lifts and other approved lifting devices, when required.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe living environment by following infection control procedures and housekeeping standards.
- Encourage participation in recreational, community, and therapeutic activities that promote socialization and personal development.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and other required records.
- Work collaboratively with nurses, family members, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality care.
- Support individuals in developing daily living skills while respecting their rights, choices, and dignity.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in a group home, assisted living facility, nursing home, or home health setting is preferred.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques, including taking vital signs and recognizing changes in condition.
- Experience with medication administration and implementation of individualized care plans is preferred.
- Ability to safely perform physical tasks, including lifting and transferring individuals with appropriate equipment.
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
Required Certifications
- Current CPR Certification
- Current First Aid Certification
