SOAP DES JOUR (Tempe Marketplace)
About the Role:
We’re an experiential soap studio where guests shop handcrafted soaps and book hands-on soap & candle-making events. The Assistant Store Manager supports daily retail sales, leads unforgettable events, and keeps the Tempe store running smoothly when the Store Manager is off-site.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Guest Experience
- Lead by example on the sales floor: greet, demo products, upsell bundles, close sales.
- Own daily KPIs (traffic conversion, AOV, UPT, bookings, reviews) and coach the team to hit targets.
- Resolve guest issues with warmth and speed; turn “oops” moments into “wow” moments.
Event Leadership (Soap & Candle Making)
- Host and manage public and private events (corporate, birthdays, team-building).
- Set up stations, safety briefing, live instruction, pacing, and wrap-up/clean-down.
- Coordinate event logistics: headcount confirmations, waivers, supplies, timing, and post-event follow-ups.
- Support outbound event bookings: answer inquiries, tour prospects, and close group reservations.
Operations:
- Open/close procedures; cash handling and daily reconciliation.
- Maintain inventory accuracy: receiving, labeling, merchandising, cycle counts, and shrink control.
- Keep the space spotless and photo-ready; ensure safety and sanitation standards at all times.
- Manage POS (Square), bookings calendar, and basic reporting.
People & training:
- Train, coach, and motivate sales associates and party hosts; model SOPs.
- Build schedules to meet forecasted traffic and events; approve time-off within guidelines.
- Provide real-time feedback; escalate performance issues to the Store Manager promptly.
Brand & Community
- Execute promos, in-store displays, and seasonal merchandising plans.
- Encourage reviews, referrals, and UGC; support social content from events (with guest consent).
Qualifications
- 1–2+ years in retail or hospitality leadership (key holder/shift lead or above); experiential retail or events a plus.
- Confident group presenter; comfortable on mic guiding 5–25 guests through hands-on activities.
- Strong organizational skills; can juggle sales floor needs with event timelines.
- Tech-comfortable: Square POS, basic spreadsheets, calendar/booking tools.
- Able to lift up to ~35 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work with fragrances/colorants following safety SOPs.
- ServSafe or similar a plus (or willingness to obtain).
Schedule & Compensation
- Status: Full-time, hourly
- Schedule: Weekends are a requirement.
- Pay: performance bonus eligibility.

Performance Metrics (what success looks like)
- Monthly sales plan achieved; conversion, UPT, and AOV on target.
- Event NPS/guest reviews ≥ 4.8/5 and on-time starts/finishes.
- Inventory accuracy within ±2%; shrink within goal.
- Team schedule coverage and labor % within plan.
