In this vital role, you will provide compassionate, personalized, and high-quality care to a client in their home, ensuring safety, comfort, dignity, and overall well-being at all times.
This position is ideal for an experienced caregiver with strong clinical skills, including hands-on support for clients with spinal cord injuries, safe mobility assistance using a Hoyer lift, and a deep commitment to delivering exceptional patient-centered care. You will also play an important role in supporting daily living activities, maintaining a clean and safe home environment, and assisting with errands, appointments, and outside activities.
The ideal candidate is empathetic, reliable, and professional, with strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients’ families and healthcare teams. This role requires someone who is proactive, compassionate, and willing to go above and beyond to enhance the client’s quality of life every day.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, compassionate personal care in a private home setting
- Safely operate an electric Hoyer lift for bed-to-chair and chair-to-bed transfers
- Assist with all activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility support
- Support a client with spinal cord injury-related care needs
- Perform light housekeeping, including cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe, sanitary home environment
- Prepare meals, assist with cooking, and support nutritional needs
- Complete grocery shopping, errands, and medication pick-ups as needed
- Maintain clear, timely communication via smartphone with care coordination team and/or family
- Travel with client to appointments, events, and outside activities as required
- Represent and conduct business on behalf of the client in a professional, respectful, and pristine manner
- Ensure client safety, comfort, and dignity at all times while delivering care
- Major plus: strong knowledge of NYC mass transit system and city geography for efficient travel, navigation, and accompaniment during outings with client
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration, and patient care protocols
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients’ families and healthcare teams
- 3–5 years of CNA experience preferred (spinal cord injury care experience highly preferred)
- Strong hands-on skills in private duty home care and complex patient support
- Proficient in safe patient handling, including Hoyer lift operation and mobility transfers
- High level of empathy, patience, and professionalism in caregiving environments
- Strong passion for caring for clients in a private in-home setting
- Ability to maintain client safety, dignity, and comfort at all times
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in care delivery and daily routines
- Comfortable performing light housekeeping, meal preparation, errands, and medication pick-ups
- Must have a smartphone and strong responsiveness for communication and coordination
- Ability to pass drug screening and criminal background checks
