STEM Enrichment Program Intern
Young Engineers of Huntsville is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and energetic STEM Enrichment Program Interns to support the delivery of hands-on engineering and enrichment programs for elementary and middle school students.
This entry-level position is designed for individuals interested in education, STEM, youth development, or community programming. Interns work alongside Enrichment Instructors and Lead Enrichment Instructors to create engaging learning experiences while developing valuable leadership, communication, and classroom management skills.
No college degree is required. We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with children, demonstrate professionalism, and are eager to learn.
Compensation is based on experience, availability, and demonstrated performance.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
- Assist instructors during STEM enrichment classes.
- Help students participate in engineering and building activities.
- Encourage student engagement and teamwork.
- Provide support to students who need additional assistance.
- Celebrate student accomplishments and positive behavior.
Classroom Assistance
- Help set up and clean up classroom materials.
- Distribute and collect LEGO kits and instructional supplies.
- Support classroom management and transitions.
- Monitor student participation and engagement.
- Assist with attendance tracking.
Materials Management
- Organize program materials and supplies.
- Inventory LEGO kits and classroom resources.
- Prepare materials for upcoming classes.
- Ensure supplies are stored properly after each session.
- Notify instructors when materials need replacement or replenishment.
Program Operations
- Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled programs.
- Assist with transportation and movement of materials when needed.
- Support special events, showcases, family nights, and demonstrations.
- Complete assigned administrative tasks accurately and on time.
- Represent Young Engineers of Huntsville professionally at all program sites.
Professional Development
- Participate in Young Engineers training sessions.
- Learn instructional and classroom management strategies.
- Observe experienced instructors and gradually assume leadership responsibilities.
- Develop communication, leadership, and facilitation skills.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum age of 16 years old.
- High school student, high school graduate, GED recipient, trade school student, or college student.
- Experience working with children through:
- Babysitting
- Youth sports
- Summer camps
- Church programs
- Tutoring
- Mentoring
- After-school programs
- Community organizations
- Strong communication skills.
- Reliable transportation to assigned sites.
- Ability to pass any required background screening.
Preferred
- Interest in STEM, engineering, robotics, education, or youth development.
- Experience leading activities for children.
- Experience working in group settings.
- Desire to grow into an Enrichment Instructor role.
