Financial Aid Advisor – Distance Education

Position Summary
Laurel Institutes is seeking an experienced, student-focused Financial Aid Advisor to join our Distance Education team. This position is responsible for counseling prospective, current, and re-entry students on financial aid options while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, institutional, and accrediting agency regulations.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years of financial aid advising experience in a distance education environment, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to provide outstanding service through virtual platforms.
Essential Responsibilities
- Guide prospective, current, and returning students through the financial aid process using multiple communication platforms.
- Assist students in completing all required administrative, academic, and financial aid documentation.
- Collect, review, and analyze financial information to determine eligibility for financial assistance in accordance with institutional and federal guidelines.
- Develop and present individualized financial aid plans and explain available funding options.
- Counsel students regarding financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, payment options, and financing solutions.
- Collaborate with admissions and campus personnel to obtain required documentation needed to secure financial aid.
- Conduct virtual financial aid appointments through video conferencing platforms.
- Prepare, distribute, collect, and process financial aid documents using electronic document management systems.
- Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from prospective students, current students, parents, and guardians by phone, email, and other communication methods.
- Provide accurate information through the institution's financial aid hotline.
- Ensure compliance with all federal regulations, institutional policies, and accrediting agency standards.
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation.
- Perform additional administrative and departmental duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 2 years of financial aid advising experience in a distance education environment.
- Working knowledge of federal financial aid regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic document management systems.
- Comfortable conducting professional meetings through video conferencing technology.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
Preferred
- Experience working with student information systems and financial aid management software.
- Experience in higher education or career school financial aid administration.

Performance evaluations are conducted annually and include, but are not limited to, review of:
- Post-disbursement reports
- Attendance reports
- Accounts receivable reports
- Third-party comprehensive reports
- Student retention rates
- Overall accuracy, compliance, and customer service performance
