Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear frames and lenses based on their prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and personal preferences
- Conduct eyewear fittings, adjustments, and repairs to ensure optimal comfort and functionality
- Dispense spectacle lenses accurately, explaining features and benefits to patients clearly
- Operate POS systems and cash registers efficiently for transactions while maintaining accuracy in billing and receipts
- Maintain detailed medical records using EMR/EHR systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and health regulation policies
- Support laboratory processes by handling optical laboratory tasks such as lens edging and frame adjustments
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries, explaining medical terminology, and ensuring a positive experience
Requirements
- Knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye care
- Experience with optical laboratory procedures, spectacle lens dispensing, eyewear fittings, and frame adjustments
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or similar platforms for managing medical records
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and state healthcare regulations
- Retail sales experience combined with proficiency in retail math and POS system operations
- Ability to perform basic math accurately for measurements and transactions
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional demeanor that fosters trust and rapport with patients
- Experience working in clinical or retail optometry settings is highly preferred
- Knowledge of vital signs measurement, aseptic techniques, health regulation policies, and medical coding is advantageous
