Operates heavy equipment under the general supervision of the Storm Drain Supervisor. Work involves specialization in the operation of backhoes, front-end loader, tractors, trenchers, slope mowers, tractor brush hog, track loader, skid steer and other specialized heavy equipment for the repair and maintenance of the channels, flumes and curb and gutter areas within the City.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primarily operates mowers, slope goat and other implements to maintain growth in channels and right of ways.
- Operates equipment in grading, shaping and maintaining channels, flumes or curb and gutter areas within the City.
- Operates backhoe, track hoes, front-end loader, tractors, trenchers, slope mowers, tractor brush hog, track loader and skid steer.
- Clearing and trimming trees along channels and right of ways.
- Operates minor construction equipment when assisting other Public Works divisions.
- Loads and hauls machinery.
- Acts as Supervisor during incumbent’s absence and performs supervisory tasks.
- Keeps daily records of work performed.
- Reports any abnormalities in the system to his supervisor for repairs.
- Ensures adherence to safety procedures.
- Performs traffic control set up at the job site to ensure a safe working environment, places and gathers cones, flags, set out traffic signs, etc.
- Ensures safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment at all times.
- Responds to emergency calls during and after normal operations, weekends and holidays in the event of flooding.
- Loads and unloads construction materials at the Public Works Facility as well as in the field.
- Clears, Cleans and Maintains equipment used in daily activities.
- Skillfully operates and performs maintenance on variety of equipment and power tools.
- Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position.
- May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.

Scope of Supervision
Works under general supervision of the Storm Drain Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Two (2) years in maintenance and/or construction including one (1) year of heavy equipment operations experience.
Possession of a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Work Zone Traffic Control & Flagger Certification.
Pesticide Applicators License

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Work Environment
Continuous outdoor and indoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying up to 100 pounds, lifting up to 100 pounds. Outside construction and machinery activities performed under normal field operations. Exposed to seasonal temperatures while operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment. Possibility of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, materials and inclement weather while in the field.

- Knowledge of the provisions in the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of motorized equipment on public streets and highways.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws relating to storm drainage channels.

- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks, planning and prioritizing.
- Ability to operate and maintain of a variety of light and heavy equipment.

Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
