RESPONSIBILITIES
The Navy Reserves is made up of the following ratings which Sailors and other service veterans can access or convert into: ABF, ABH, AE, AD, AIRC, AG, AIRR, AM, AME, AO, AT, AW, AZ, BM, BU, CE, CM, CS, CTI, CTM, CTR, CTT, CWT, DC, EA, EM, EN, EO, EOD, ET, FC, GM, GSE, GSM, HM, HT, IS, IT, LN, LS, MA, MC, MM, MN, SO, SB
WHAT TO EXPECT
All Navy Reserve roles are part-time roles. Typical commitment is one weekend a month of drilling and about two weeks of Annual Training each year. Most training takes place near your home. You earn military pay and retirement points while maintaining your civilian career or education, and may be mobilized to support operational needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
As a Sailor in the U.S. Navy Reserve, you’ll be standing by, ready to assist the Fleet wherever needed. With Reserve Centers across the nation, you get the Navy community and benefits you love, plus the civilian life you joined to protect.
You’ll drill one weekend a month and attend Annual Training for two weeks a year, so you can serve around your schedule in a location convenient to you. Whether you’re joining for the first time, have served in the past or are just transitioning out of Active Duty, life in the Reserve combines all the Navy benefits, camaraderie and culture you enjoy as a Sailor with everything you love about your personal life.
TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT
Navy Reserve Training and Advancement programs follow the same process and cyclyes of Active Duty Navy. Most member will transition in at the same rank the held on Active Duty.

Direct enlistment or accession available to Fleet Sailors leaving Active Duty as well as those who have previously served in any of the branches of the Armed Forces

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
U.S. citizen; eligible for security clearance Normal hearing and color perception Strong arithmetic and computing aptitude; ability to speak and write well Teamwork, attention to detail, accurate record‑keeping Physical strength and manual dexterity Mature, motivated, ready for significant responsibility High school diploma or equivalent; age 17+.

ADDITIONAL NOTES/DISCLAIMERS
Navy Reserve pay is known as “drill pay,” which is based on a prorated amount of pay and allowances received while serving on Active Duty. It is typically equal to 1/30th of the basic pay prescribed for a Sailor’s grade and years of service. Grades (E-1 to E-9 for Enlisted and O-1 to O-10 for Officer) indicate how status equates across the uniformed services.
Upon joining the Navy Reserves after completing Active Duty, a servicemember’s Navy Reserve pay is typically in the same pay grade he or she previously held. If Reserve Sailors transition to Active Duty, they are paid four days of active pay for just two days of work.
BONUS (optional)
With compensation for drill weekends and base pay for Annual Training (AT) two weeks per year, Navy Reserve Sailors earn as they serve. A Navy Reserve bonus and other financial incentives are also given for critical rates and Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs).
In addition to income, Navy Reserve Sailors can plan for retirement through participation in the tax-deferred Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). They can also ensure their family’s well-being through Service Member’s Life Insurance (SLGI) policy of $500,000 for just $29/month, $100,000 for spouses and $10,000 for each child.
