INSTRUCTORS
Chemistry I Tutor needed to work with Unites States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) cadets from 7-10pm, Sunday-Thursday at the United States Coast Guard Academy, 33 Mohegan Avenue, New London, Connecticut. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field is required in addition to one year's experience teaching and working with faculty and students in a higher education setting.
The COVID-19 Pandemic led to unprecedented learning loss amongst K-12 students across the United States. Many of the USCGA Cadet Class of 2027 entered the USCGA in the Summer of 2023 less prepared than ever and need remediation to improve grades and graduate.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Tutor shall provide tutoring in Chemistry I.
Tutoring will take place on-site at the USCGA campus at 33 Mohegan Avenue, New London, Connecticut from 7-10pm, Sunday-Thursday for the Fall Semester. The semester runs from August 24, 2026 through December 17, 2026. Tutoring services will not be required during Thanksgiving Break or on Federal Holidays.
JOB OVERVIEW: PART-TIME INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR POSITION
- Instruction Model: Classroom instruction.
- Part-time Opportunity: Four, three-hour sessions per week from 8/24/2026 - 12/17/2026.
- Support: Support provided by Richmond Tutoring, Inc. staff.
- Resources: USCGA will provide the workspace, equipment and supplies necessary to tutor the Cadets. This includes but is not limited to course materials including syllabi, textbooks and relevant software.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Be able to follow curricula.
- Work with students in a classroom setting.
- Assist students in understanding their course concepts, completing assignments, and preparing for their quizzes and exams.
- Confer with faculty once a week regarding the cadets you're working with.
- Inform USCGA instructors of any concerns that a student is not demonstrating improvement or understanding of course content.
- Maintain an accurate list of attendance at tutoring sessions.
- Must wear a Government issued identification badge at all times when on-site.
- Must comply with all applicable Government regulations, policies and procedures (e.g., fire, safety, sanitation, environmental protection, security, “off limits” areas, wearing of parts of DHS uniforms, and possession of weapons).
- Must understand and abide by Department of Homeland Security established rules, regulations and policies concerning safety and security.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or doctoral degree in a field closely related to the subject for which you will be tutoring.
- Minimum of one year’s experience teaching and working with faculty and students in a higher education setting.
- Be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must have a Real ID.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 per week
